How to be Productive on Your Life Admin Days

Sometimes I am so busy running my business that I forget to take care of myself. There’s tasks that are the absolute last thing I want to do after work. Such as, scheduling a doctor’s appointment, cleaning out the closet, or taking care of car maintenance I’ve been putting off for months. Ya’ know, avoiding the adulting activities that are necessary to live a high-functioning life. To be fair, I have ADHD, so that might be why I put off so many life admin tasks. However, I have to guess that normal people feel the same way about these not-so-fun activities as well. So, here is a blog on how to be productive on your life admin days.

What is a Life Admin Day?

A life admin day, also known as a personal administration day or simply an “admin day,” is a designated day where an individual focuses on organizing and managing various aspects of their personal life. It’s a time to be productive by tackling tasks, chores, and responsibilities that often get overlooked during busy periods.

I typically schedule, yes, I actually block off the day in my work calendar, 1-2 admin days a month where I rip the band-aid off and knock out tasks I don’t love doing. I start with a brain dump of everything I need to do and then sort the tasks out by priority level.

Ways to be Productive on Your Life Admin Days

Being Productive in Household Management

This may include cleaning and organizing living spaces, decluttering closets and drawers, scheduling home maintenance tasks, and managing household finances such as paying bills and budgeting.

Personal Finances

Taking care of financial matters such as budgeting, tracking expenses, reviewing investments, updating insurance policies, and planning for future financial goals.

Health and Well-being

Scheduling appointments with healthcare providers, ordering prescriptions or refills, researching health-related information, and prioritizing self-care activities such as exercise, meal planning, and relaxation.

Being Productive in Your Personal and Professional Development

Investing time in personal growth and development by setting goals, updating resumes or portfolios, researching educational opportunities, networking, and pursuing hobbies or interests.

Time Management

Evaluating priorities, setting deadlines, creating to-do lists, and developing strategies for better time management and productivity.

The specific tasks tackled during a life admin day can vary depending on individual needs and circumstances. The goal is to take a proactive approach to managing one’s personal affairs. Such as, reducing stress, and maintaining a sense of control and organization in various areas of life. Some people may choose to dedicate an entire day to life admin periodically. But others may prefer to integrate these tasks into their regular routine in smaller increments. Regardless of the approach, setting aside time for life admin can helpful. It promotes efficiency, reduces feelings of overwhelm, and ensures that important tasks are not neglected. Due to my ADHD, I find that setting aside one day to tackle everything has the best results for me.
